Disclaimer
The information and calculations provided on DocketCalc.com are for general informational and educational purposes only. DocketCalc.com is not intended to provide, and should not be construed as, legal advice, legal opinions, or legal counsel.
Not a Substitute for Legal Advice
DocketCalc.com is an automated deadline calculation tool. It is not a substitute for consultation with a licensed attorney, verification against the applicable rules of court, or confirmation with your local court clerk. Court deadlines depend on complex, jurisdiction-specific rules, and calculations should always be verified by qualified legal professionals before making any filing decisions.
Limitations and Jurisdictional Variations
DocketCalc calculations are based on Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure (FRAP), Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure (FRBP), and commonly used local rules from federal district courts. However, court rules vary significantly by jurisdiction, and important limitations apply:
- Local Rules Vary: Each of the 94 federal district courts has its own local rules that may differ from or supplement federal rules. Bankruptcy courts, courts of appeal, and other specialized courts have different rules entirely.
- Standing Orders: Individual judges issue standing orders that may shorten, extend, or otherwise modify deadline calculations. DocketCalc cannot account for standing orders.
- Case-Specific Orders: Judges may issue case-specific orders (scheduling orders, docket control orders, etc.) that modify deadlines. These are not reflected in automated calculations.
- Recent Rule Changes: Federal rules and local rules are amended regularly. Although we update our rules data quarterly, DocketCalc may not reflect the most recent amendments immediately.
- Tolling and Extensions: DocketCalc does not account for tolling, continuances, stipulated extensions, or other factors that may delay or extend deadlines.
- State Courts and Specialized Tribunals: State courts, bankruptcy courts, administrative tribunals, and specialized courts (tax courts, military courts, etc.) follow different deadline rules. DocketCalc is designed for federal civil courts only.

- Any published standing orders from your assigned judge
- Your case management system (PACER, CM/ECF, etc.)
